On Saturday, August 2nd, Nicky Gaines brought his volunteer team to Dog & Kitty City to complete his Eagle service project, landscaping the side yard to create a more appealing "first impression" for visitors. The objective was to improve the safety of the yard for the animals and provide an attractive "meet and greet" area for prospective adopters. The project is for Circle 10 BSA Eagle Troop.
The scope of Nicky's project involved designing the new gardens, fundraising for the necessary plants and materials as well as recruiting and supervising a team to get the job done. His team included Chris Snell, David Dimitri, Will Lavadie, Travis Minor, Henry Puebla, Martin Brown, Andrew Gaines and Angie & Hank Gaines.
They all weathered the record breaking Texas heat to secure the existing fence to prevent dogs tunneling out! They also replaced and reconfigured some of the existing plants and added new plants to create attractive bed areas throughout the yard. They provided a new hose sprinkling system for maintenance and a wrought iron bench for visitors -- and furry friends -- to enjoy.
A great big DKC thank you to Nicky and his team for making the shelter a safer, more attractive environment for all.
DKC has been blessed to be a favorite site for Eagle projects. The yard fence was Cooper Tye's project last year and many special shelves and cubbies within the shelter are the result of previous projects. We are so grateful to these exceptional young people of our community.
