UPDATED: Help Us Help Kellary
Monday, 01 February 2010

Update on 2/14/2010: The sweet boy had his surgery, Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO). This entails fitting the leg back into the hip bone. The problem could be congenital or trauma-caused. Since his other hind leg showed signs of abrasions, there is the possibility that he was hit by a vehicle.

He is recovering at the shelter and is so gentle, even the conehead does not bother him!! We thank those who have become Kellary's Guardian Angels. It helps with the happy ending we know he will have. We are still working to place him in foster care -- or better yet, a permanent forever home!

From the surgery, he may have a little less mobility than is normal, but there is no reason he cannot have a long and happy life.

Original article:

"Kellary came into the shelter stray and injured. He's friendly and calm. He's about 2 years old and weighs 43 lbs. He doesn't use his right rear leg. He walks very slowly. His leg and/or hip is damaged and he needs veterinary care asap. He is being made as comfortable as possible with pain meds. He is AVAILABLE TO RESCUE IMMEDIATELY. Can someone give this sweet dog a helping hand?"

This was the plea to help this handsome boy and DKC has stepped up. We don't know how he came to be a stray, if he was hit by a car or how he sustained his injury. But we know we want his story to have a happy ending. Will you help craft that happy ending?

Kellary's first visit to the vet indicates a dislocation that could not simply be popped back into place, so surgery is required. The extent of his surgery will depend on how long his hip has been out of joint and what correction will be necessary to get him back on his feet.

Once his surgery is complete, we need a foster home to help with Kellary's rehab. He is a gentle soul and will be no bother. He likes people, cats and other dogs.

Please, if you can help, sign on as a Guardian Angel and donate to Kellary's care or sign on as a foster parent and let us know you will take him into your home while he recuperates. Thank you.
