Loving Roma
Saturday, 12 February 2011

I hope you are keeping warm in this crazy weather! Roma is doing great!! She hated the ice but seems to love the snow. I attached a cute picture of her with Paho in my art studio. She spends a lot of time curled up in Paho's lap!

She is doing great. The three of us went on our first road trip together - We all spent Christmas in New Mexico with family. She did great in the car and seemed to enjoy watching the scenery and of course, being Roma, she LOVED meeting all the new people. She is such a sweetheart and people lover.

Thank you again for the work you do at the shelter. We are so happy you rescued Roma!

Best Regards,

Jack Dancing in the Snow
Thursday, 10 February 2011

I'm attaching a few pictures of Jack (formerly named Dodd), so you can see how big he's grown! He's definitely been a challenge, but is quickly learning new things every day. We love him so much, and he's become a major part of our family. Again, thank you for everything that you did to make this adoption possible.

Happy New Year from Trouble
Sunday, 02 January 2011

Happy New Year!

I am a little calico kitty from the shelter you knew as Natasha. I was adopted about 3 weeks ago. I am writing to you to let you know about my great new home.

My new name is CalicoRose - but mostly my parents call me "TROUBLE". I do not know was that word means, but since they always smile when they say it and give me lots of hugs and kisses, I am sure it means "beautiful", "wonderful" or something like that.

I love my new parents. They have bought me lots of toys and gave me a kitty bed and kitty scratching post. They are great except for an unfortunate obession with the word "no-no, Callie, no." This is another word I do not understand, but that is okay, because mostly I just ignore it.

I have a big sister now. She still does not completely understand what a wonderful kitty I am, but she only hisses at me a couple a times a day now, so my beauty is slowly winning her over!

I want to thank everyone at the shelter for helping to place me in a home. I have lots to eat (I have already gained a pound!), parents who are proving to be very easy to train and am already spoiled rotten! Please tell all of the kitties I am doing great and am keeping my paws crossed for them to get a good home.

The Adventures of Layla and Her Sidekick Kate
Wednesday, 17 November 2010

Hello to everyone at DKC! I’m a few weeks late, but on October 20th Layla and I celebrated our first year together! It’s been a wonderful year for us and we wanted to share some of the excitement with you.

It’s amazing how different things are from the first day I saw “Cher” at the Irving City Shelter and then finally adopted her from you. Today she is the happiest girl in the world, always smiling! She loves her big kitty sister Phoebe. They keep each other company when I’m away and truthfully they rule the household.

We went to visit my family in Florida for Thanksgiving last year and Layla loved the dog beach. At Christmas, we went to see Santa so she could tell him exactly what she wanted in her stocking. During January’s big storm she experienced snow for the first time and couldn’t get enough of it. When the weather finally got warm again I took her to the doggy pool at my work and she tried swimming. Because of her short little legs she needed a life vest for safety, but she tried so hard! And this year for Halloween she went trick-or-treating with her “boyfriend” Rex; he was a cowboy and she was an Indian. Layla and Rex are a perfectly matched pair. They have doggy play dates every week and people always ask if they are from the same litter. They just love each other. Layla really is the perfect companion.

Most days we just spend together running errands around town (she is my faithful co-pilot) and hanging out at home and watching TV. She is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and we are so happy together. We hope you all have had as great a year as we have! Thanks for bringing us together and for creating happy lives for other dogs, cats, and people out there. Keep up the great work!

Speedy Harley
Monday, 11 October 2010

We call "Tobias" by "Harley" now. He is the greatest dog and he and our older dog Ellie became best buddies on day one. His hobbies include chasing squirrels in his back yard and currently trying to figure out why he can't climb the trees like the squirrels. He also enjoys running solo, at a fast clip, zig-zag/wig-wag around the yard. You might find him snoozing in the grass on a sunny day. He likes just hanging out in the house with us and following us around like a, well, like a puppy dog. He has been a joyful addition to our family and we love him.

The Fantastic Four
Sunday, 03 October 2010

Fred, Emmet, and Elmo are adapting very well to their new home. Fred loves being petted and he’s very fond of us. Emmet, the kisser of the three, really enjoys snuggling up to my husband and I as we lounge on the couch. Then, there’s Elmo, who was slow to get over hairballs, but once we introduced butter to his diet it didn’t take him long to improve and at the same time, we discovered that butter is something he wouldn’t mind eating on a regular basis. All three cats love to bask in the sunlight that comes through our windows.

Also, the addition of these three cats to our family has done wonders for Wes, our other cat. He has slimmed down from all the hilarious races and games these characters dream up. He sings arias to his little red mouse with fringe like hair in the middle of the night with the mouse in his mouth while he parades around. He is an amazing and pleasing baritone. We’re very happy to have all of these fellows as part of our family and so is Wes, as you can see.

Cute Charlie
Wednesday, 22 September 2010

I adopted Charlie (formerly named Scrappy by his foster mom, since he was such a scrappy little guy) in Feb of this year and I wanted to thank Doggy and Kitty City for everything they did to go out of their way to help him get settled into my home. He is the sweetest little cuddler and a wonderful companion from when I wake up getting pushed off the bed by him in the morning (I thought eight pounds couldn't take up much space!) to our fun walks, watching TV and riding in the car! We even go on little adventures to the lake in which he enjoys sniffing everything in sight and sitting with me by the water. He's very loving, in great health, and as a first time dog owner I was very fortunate, because he came to me wonderfully trained by his foster family and very willing to learn more (especially if there's a treat involved). I took a picture of him in the car after he was groomed and I think it shows what a wonderful, happy little dog he is!

Happily Ending Iliad
Wednesday, 22 September 2010

Achilles (formerly known as Blizzard) came home 4 months ago and has been a complete dream. He got along with his new brother Ajax, who is a Maine Coon Cat, instantly. He even tolerates Ajax’s sneak attacks! He loves snuggling up with his mom during movie time and going on long walks. He learned all of the essential safety commands in one day! He has been such a great addition to my family and I wanted everyone to know how well we are all doing. DKC, thank you for saving my beautiful baby from a death sentence and giving me the opportunity to find him!

Kylea's Favorite Toy
Friday, 27 August 2010

Hi Everyone,

I had to share photos of Kylea's favorite toy. She loves this yellow name tag cord and we play every day. She loves to chase it and then will pick it up and carry it away and drop it and meow for more play. She is one smart feline and so affectionate and loves her food. Her fur is growing well and she loves to be brushed every day. She loves hugs and sleeps by me every night. She has adjusted so well to her new home. She has the cutest personalty and talks a lot - is very expressive. This is just the beginning. I just wanted to share with you.

I wanted to give you an update on Polo (we have renamed him Princeton or "Prince" since he didn't seem to know his name was Polo yet). He and Jasmine (his new sister) have both adjusted so well! Some of his good habits are rubbing off on his big sister. They both eat at the same time and know whose food belongs to whom without ever fighting... Jasmine was never as interested in her food before. After two days, they have learned to share toys and they love to romp around and play outside. We see that Prince likes to be outside more than inside but he is adjusting to being inside more these days.

We took him to the vet yesterday and he said everything looked great. He's up to date on his shots and it looks like he may have missed his heartworm medicine last month but other than that the vet said y'all took excellent care of him. We ended up having him sedated for the removal of the remaining staples yesterday and his incisions are well healed and he is happy!

Thanks for such a wonderful addition to our family!!! We have attached pics for you to pass around.
